Enugu diaspora group donates medical equipment to ESUT teaching hospital

The Enugu State indigenes in America, under the aegis of Enugu State Medical Mission have donated medical equipment worth over N8 million to the State University of Science and Technology Teaching Hospital, Parklane.

The equipment which included hospital beds, stretchers, surgical equipments, consumables, mattresses, ophthalmology and obstetrics and gynecology equipments were attracted by the medical mission from the Medical Bridges and the SOS donor agencies based in the United States of America.

The leader of the group and the Special Adviser to Governor Sullivan Chime on Diaspora Matters and Special Project, Dr. Jude Akubuilo who handed over the equipment to the Chief Medical Director of the teaching hospital said that the donation was the third in the series by the group, adding that they had earlier on two occasions donated medical equipments worth 11 million naira to the hospital

He said that his group was poised to equip the Amenity Unit of the Hospital until it attains an international standard.

According to Dr. Akubuilo, the souring of the equipments was facilitated by a member of the group, Dr Kanayo Ubesie.

Dr. Akubuilo also commended Governor Chime for his cooperation and encouragement, which he said, had motivated the group in attracting such amenities to the hospital from the oversea donor agencies.

He assured the people of Enugu State that in no distance time, people would no longer have reason to leave the state for other places for medical treatment as the ESUT Teaching Hospital would be equipped with the state-of-the-art medical equipment found in overseas hospital.

Receiving the items, the Chief Medical Director, Dr. Patrick UdeH, commended the efforts of the Enugu State Medical Mission in equipping ESUT Teaching Hospital to an international standard.

He noted that ESUT Teaching Hospital could today compete with any state teaching hospital in the country because of the modern equipment being attracted to the hospital by the group.

He appealed to the group to expedite action on their arrangement for the proposed exchange medical programmes between ESUT Teaching Hospital and other hospitals in diaspora.

Dr. Akubuilo also announced that Governor Chime approved release of the sum of 150 million naira for procurement of more medical equipment for ESUT Teaching Hospital.

He added that the governor has also enhanced the welfare of staff of the hospital and called on the staff of the hospital to reciprocate this good gesture by being dedicated to their duties.
